Rak Bent "You're a girl"

“Rak Bent” is a phrase commonly used in Libyan dialect to remind a girl of the limits imposed on her simply because she is female. This project explores Libyan women’s right to the city, focusing on Benghazi and the visible and invisible boundaries that shape women’s presence in public space. Through a series of oil paintings and mixed media works, the project reflects on how social values regulate women’s movement, belonging, and freedom within the urban environment.
